Hello people
We are all learners from Womb to Tomb , since I am done with my not so wow exam . I decided not only to let my mind learn new things but also brush on things I already know. The free course from Stanford is something I stumbled upon.
Why
Honestly, I enrolled because it was from The Stanford University of Medicine. It seemed like a well paced course. It's always great to be prepared before the third wave 🌊 hits the shores.
Duration
My experience has been good. Having completed my residency and working in the pandemic I found the difficulty decent. It took me about a week to complete. I didn't want to rush through the course as I didn't want to lose the essence. In between shifts and other curious activities. If you're ON it day and night you can complete it in 2 days. I watched the video on 2x.
Who all can take it ?
All healthcare workers . Doctor s , nurses and paramedical staff. Works better if you're dealing with COVID 19 patients. Fresh graduates pass-outs.
Highlights of the course
1. Starts from basics of handwash.
2. Touches aspects of telemedicine like how to position yourself while teleconsulting a patient , how to examine a patient, basics like how to check his respiratory rate and minute details , when to refer.
3. The PPEs the staff in the COVID area should be wearing and how to reduce the viral load by simple measure.
4. The course paces up on 02 delivery devices then NIV .
5. Basics from the drugs to be taken for intubation , techniques, post intubation care
6. Ventilation, handling common nuisances of ventilator, troubleshooting a ventilator.
Quality
They have a pre and post video questionnaire that doesn't let you proceed until you score more than 75% . Lets you take abundant attempts. As the course gets over it gives you another quiz. So this way there is active learning.
