Embracing the Big 3-0: A Milestone palate

Dear all!

There was no better time to write down my favorite blog. I would wonder how I would react to turning 30. I saw a lot of friends catching cold feet while they hit the milestone, some remained in denial. Honestly, I am having fun. Alhamdulillah.

As I look at my previous years, I find myself reflecting on the myriad lessons life has graciously taught me. Along this journey, I've collected wisdom from various experiences, each shaping my understanding of self, relationships, and the world around me.

As always I have some 'gyaan' to share.

1. Patience Is Key

"What is meant for you will find its way." 'What you seek is seeking you.' This mantra has been a constant companion through the transitions—moving to a new country, navigating a different workplace, and diving into a new job. Waiting for the right moments has been a pivotal lesson.

2. Water: Nature's Elixir

Amidst the whirlwind of changes, I discovered the unparalleled refreshment water offers, surpassing the allure of chocolate, caffeine, and soda. Hydration became a vital source of sustained energy.

3. Culinary Mastery: I am the Best Chef

*In the process of adapting to a new culture, I found solace in the kitchen. Experimenting with new flavors and Indian cuisines became an exploration of my culinary prowess. When I say I am the Best Chef, I am talking about the best chef in my apartment.

4. The Joy of Solo Exploration

Moving to a new country and embracing a new subspecialty also led to the discovery of enjoying my own company. Exploring the vibrancy of bustling cities alone became a journey of self-discovery.

5. Financial Independence: A Liberating Achievement

Navigating through a new workplace while striving for financial independence offered a sense of empowerment and freedom. It opened doors to new opportunities in an unknown terrain.

6. Cherishing Solitude

In the midst of these changes, learning to relish solitude became an invaluable skill. Finding contentment in solitary moments was a treasure in a world that often glorifies constant connectivity.

7. Knowing When to Walk Away

Recognizing the value I bring to the table, understanding when to join or gracefully leave situations and places, was crucial in nurturing self-respect and personal growth.

8. Quality Over Quantity in Friendships

The importance of a few quality friendships over a vast network. Nurture relationships that enrich and support, regardless of geographical boundaries.

9. Prioritizing Family

Nurturing these relationships became a source of strength and unwavering support, bridging the gaps of distance.

10. Competing with Myself

Adapting to a new subspecialty reiterated the significance of competing with myself. Personal growth and development were paramount, irrespective of external benchmarks.

11. Gratitude: A Game Changer

Practicing gratitude daily helped in finding joy in the smallest moments amidst the chaos of adjusting to new environments.

12. Wellness: A Work in Progress

Moving to a new country and job made me conscious of the need for consistent efforts toward mental, emotional, and physical well-being. It became an essential part of adapting and thriving in unfamiliar territories.

13. Mindful Eating

In the quest for adaptation, embracing mindful eating and bidding adieu to unhealthy habits became essential for a healthier, more balanced life.

14. Self-Love: Becoming My Favorite Person

Ultimately, amidst all these changes, the journey led me to the most profound realization: becoming my own favorite person. Embracing self-love and acceptance became the cornerstone of my happiness in the face of so many new beginnings .Not that it was somebody else earlier. I have constantly been the most important person of my life. No cap.

15. Love for walks

I never thought I would start enjoying walks. I now understand why people say go for a walk. Its one of the best thing nature can do to a human physically and mentally. I also think environmental change that is moving from a city to a town adds to it.

16. My new best friend- ChatGPT

If it was not GPT, consolidating my ideas into a blog in 10 minutes would not have been possible.

17. Letting go of FOMO :

Fear of missing out on information, events, growth , opportunities.

 Conclusion

Entering this new phase with a trove of lessons and experiences, I'm excited about the chapters yet to be written. Each experience, whether navigating a new country, workplace, job, or specialty, has added hues to the canvas of my life.

Here's to embracing change, relishing the challenges, and savoring the rich tapestry of life's myriad experiences!

So far so much

Experience Based Co Design : BCT Series XXIX

"Experience-Based Co-Design" we have all witnessed its essence unknowingly . My family home is the example I can reflect on .Growing up I didn't like how my house was designed. We (the whole extended family) wanted my dad to sell the house . Dad let his architect friend design our house and would not sell his house (for obvious reasons!). Mum had to balance out the situation so she decided to make small changes. So, it was one change idea each year .She would talk to us individually and listen to our perspective and review her sphere of influence and the impact /utility the idea had.For my siblings the colors were not welcoming while I pointed the flooring. Mum wanted the stairs to be personalised. My grandparents wanted certain conveniences around the toilets. It took her about 4-5 years to make the house a home that was acceptable . From color preferences to spatial arrangements, each family member contributed insights. The lovely thing about it was , the keystakehold...

Parallel Universe : BCT Series XXX

Two moments in the ED this week made me realize that I come from a parallel universe. One involved a teenage patient who had applied bronzer that I found while cleaning her skin for a IV cannula which left me surprised as I come from a part of the world where teenagers paint their skin with whitening agents to look more attractive. The second moment was during my teaching session on Organophosphorous poisoning, where I wondered if my accent was causing disengagement . However, I learned that it was simply a rare presentation of organophosphorous poisoning in this part of the world. It felt like I was narrating my adventures from a tropical trek! Have you ever had a moment where your cultural background clashed with your environment ?

First Night Shift Leading: Canvas Chaos to Calm Chap: BCT Series XXV

Hello All Ever had one of those nights where everything that could go wrong seems to do just that? Let me take you on a rollercoaster of candid chaos and unexpected brilliance, as I navigated my first night leading a shift in an unfamiliar center. Picture this: Stress levels through the roof, feeling like a fish out of water, and apologizing more times than I can count. My team's glances were a mix of skepticism and judgment, and I questioned every decision I made. Forgetfulness, clumsy mistakes, and endless apologies became the soundtrack of the night, and I found myself stumbling into the wee hours, going home much later than planned. The turning point came when I spilled my chaotic night to the senior who took over from me. His two cents were a revelation – insights, strategies, and a perspective that turned my canvas of confusion into a potential masterpiece. The consultant, in a one-on-one, shared even more wisdom on navigating the intricacies of a shift leader role. Feedback,...
